The group was formed with a view to play Polish music in line with the performance practice of the best genuine folk bands. Thanks to its meticulous attention to detail, the interpretations of the Trio bear all the hallmarks of the style of village musicians raised to the level of artistic concert pieces. In addition to the violin, bass and small drum, the members of the Trio play the shawm and wooden flute. These instruments enrich the texture of the classical mazurkas and kujawiaks with the kind of sound which one can imagine when looking at old prints depicting wandering musicians and court ensembles, and which can be heard from Tadjikistan to Brittany. The dynamic nature of Polish country dances and the characteristic features of the prosody of the Polish language are the key elements that create the unique rhythms, melodic lines and timbre of such dances as the kujawiak, mazur, oberek, powi¶lak and podróżniak performed by the Janusz Prusinowski Trio. The musical dialogue between the intrumentalists, the use of heterophony and the spirit of joint improvisation are the other ingredients of the group’s unique character.
