The ensemble specializes in the performance of traditional music from Central, Eastern and Southern Europe. Its repertoire includes music from central Poland, Hutsul tunes, Balkan, Czech, Greek, Italian, Gypsy and Jewish music. Swoj± Drog± Trio also composes and performs incidental music to theatre performances and street parades. It works closely with the Warsaw theatre company Makata (productions ‘Rozhowory’, ‘Wesele’) and the Znak Theatre in Gdańsk. In 2005 the Trio started to cooperate with folk singer Apolonia Nowak from the Kurpie Region, one of the finest continuator of her region’s tradition of village music. The CD ‘Pola’ (released on the Folkers label in 2009) is an excellent outcome of what has developed into a very fruitful partnership. It is one of the most interesting folk recordings of the past few years.
‘Pola’ contains vocal-instrumental arrangements of Kurpie courtship, love and wedding songs, in which echoes of old village rituals are blended with the contemporary sound of acoustic music. Leading musicians representing the Warsaw folk, jazz and early music scene took part in the recording.
