‘There is no one word to describe the music of Kwadrofonik. No label seems to be appropriate, but the pleasure of listening is exquisite. Rzeczpospolita
Kwadrofonik is the only quartet of its kind in Poland and one of the few in the world which is formed by joining a piano duo (the Lutosławski Piano Duo - Emilia Sitarz and Bartłomiej W±sik) and a percussion duo (Hob-beats Duo - Magdalena Kordylasińska and Miłosz Pękała). Its career began in 2006 with a spectacular victory at the 9th ‘New Tradition’ Folk Festival of Polish Radio, at which the musicians won the Grand Prix, the Audience Prize and the Prize of the Mayor of Warsaw. It was then that the critics praised the ensemble for its innovative concepts and for blazing new avenues in folk music.
Kwadrofonik is an ensemble whose members are engaged in an extraordinary dialogue, in which the roles of the instruments shift almost imperceptibly, the pianos becoming percussion instruments and the percussion instruments taking over the role of melodic instruments. Precision of performance, spontaneity, and a gift of direct contact with the audience are a guarantee of a full satisfaction for participants in the group’s musical shows. These are genuinely original artistic productions which blend in an excellent way the classical and traditional music, jazz and new music.
In 2007 Kwadrofonik was awarded the prestigious Special Prize at the 3rd ‘Svetozar Stracina’ Competition of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) in Bratislava. A prize for a modern approach, innovation and adherence to tradition was awarded for the first time in the history of the competition.
The ensemble has participated in numerous festivals in Poland, Germany, Israel, Brazil and Ireland. Scheduled performances in the 2010/2011 season include concerts in such prestigious venues as the Carnegie Hall in New York, the Chicago Symphony Center and the Berlin Philharmonic.
