CZESSBAND is a Warsaw-based acoustic band that plays folk music from all
over the world. In fact we play everything that has a good and strong melody.
The aim is not to make an old-school museum of folk music, because we live
here and now, using the Internet, mobiles, mp3s and having an unlimited access
to music from all corners of the world. We don’t forget that Warsaw music
means influences from far and wide, and that the capital of Poland was always
open to wide-ranging inspirations. The highly popular ‘Tango apaszowskie’,
for instance, has its roots in Argentina, whereas the ‘gallop polka’ comes from
Bohemia. That’s why we feel free to draw from diverse styles, even those
not directly connected with the Warsaw folklore. From bluegrass we take the
drive, from the Balkans the beautiful melodies, from the Middle East - Oriental
themes, from Hungary - the characteristic stomp and finally from Warsaw - the
energy, the tradition of being open to inspirations and, last but not least, a lot of
traditional, beautiful Warsaw hits.
