Cukunft (‘Future’ in Yiddish) was founded by the guitarist Raphael Rogiński (also performing in the trio Shofar and solo) with a view to continue and develop the tradition of Jewish music in Eastern and Central Europe with all its richness and diversity.
Cukunft performs pre-war pieces in their own interpretations and composes original music within the mould of the whole spectrum of Jewish tradition, which is a living inspiration for the group. Its repertoire is created spontaneously, but is at the same time a result of musicological and sociological studies.
Cukunft currently performs in the following line-up: Raphael Rogiński (electric guitar), Paweł Szamburski (clarinet), Paweł Szpura (percussion), Michał Górczyński (bass clarinet, saxophone). Kuba Kossak (bassoon), Adam Różański (percussion), Piotr Kaliński (percussionalia), Tomasz Duda (baritone saxophone) and Konstanty Usenko (cello) are often invited to join the group in various projects.
In January 2010 Cukunft released the 2 CD album ‘Itstikeyt / Fargangenheit’.
